Hi Everyone, today’s Designer Interview is with Poppy, one half of the very special and unique Pop & Scott.

What is POP & SCOTT all about?
Pop & Scott is a reflection of the Australian lifestyle landscape and architecture – we create pieces that embody easy living. All our furniture and products are made in our Melbourne workshop, using sustainably sourced and recycled Australian timbers.

How did you get started?
I have always had a love for well-designed spaces and furniture… on our travels through Mexico Scotty and I started dreaming up designs together. When we returned home Scotty found some wood working machines while working on a plumbing job. We bought them and then it all rolled on from there.

All of our furniture and lighting is Australian made using local sustainable materials and our pots are all hand painted here in our Melbourne workshop by talented local artist. The pots were actually a bit of an accidental part of our business. I painted a few for our workshop to freshen up the space and people kept asking to buy them so I decided to do a limited range of them….. 4 years later and we are still going strong with them and loving it. We are now currently working on new unique shapes and large scale pots and we have a beautiful collection of timeless indoor and outdoor furniture and lighting collection.

What was your inspiration?
We were inspired to start Pop & Scott on a road trip through Mexico. I have always be obsessed with beautiful spaces, furniture and creating harmonious settings. I can get that kind of creative satisfaction in Floristry but I was craving more… Scotty has always been a dreamer and a doer so when we started discussing furniture designs together and making them in our garage there was and instant spark and drive to keep going.

What keeps you motivated?
Scotty and I are motivated people so it does not take much to get us going! We do get great satisfaction in creating beautiful products and then seeing them in someone’s home.

What are the design trends you are seeing emerge for 2016/7?
To be honest we don’t really follow design trends – our pieces are simple and timeless and although there is often a zeitgeist in the midst I think more often than not we are looking back to eras already passed to create something that will be in your home a long time.

What is your favorite piece from the Indigo Folk collection?
I love the Joni (thin vertical lines) it’s a nice simple design and complements and large leaf plant beautifully.

What is your favorite room in your home?
Our house is essentially two rooms – but our favourite spot is our large daybed, because of the floor to ceiling windows is feels like you are nestled in the garden. The beautiful dappled afternoon light is dreamy, plus our beautiful baby Lou was born there so it is pretty special spot.
